Messiah on Tour to Toodyay!
Handel’s Messiah comes to Toodyay this year, in a performance by Perth Symphonic Chorus at the Toodyay Memorial Hall on Saturday 9 December at 2:00pm.
Perth Symphonic Chorus has a proud history of successful concerts throughout Australia and abroad.
In May 2022, James Pratt was appointed as Music Director of the Choir, when Dr Margaret Pride OAM stepped down after decades of leadership.
Performances outside the metropolitan area are a priority for James and the Choir, with further concerts in regional WA planned.
Featuring the immortal Hallelujah Chorus, Handel’s Messiah has become an annual Christmas tradition in WA.
In 2021, Perth Symphonic Chorus launched the Dr Margaret Pride Choral Scholarship, which gives talented young singers an opportunity to further their development through solo opportunities with the Choir.
Graduates from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) will join with Choral Scholars to perform the solos in Messiah in Toodyay.
“Growing up in a country area, I know how much live music and community gathering is valued,” said conductor James Pratt.
“Presenting a concert outside of our regular venues in Perth, is as much a thrill for us as we hope it will be for the community.”
Messiah was written in 1741 by the English/German composer George Frideric Handel. It tells the story of the coming of Jesus Christ, his life, death and enduring Christianity. Perfect themes for Christmas.
The work has a long association with charitable causes, and has been performed annually for the past 280 years.
